Discussion was opened with the aim to contribute with the ALCUEH net work in preparation of a basis for training, divulgation, and definition of national policies concerning neglected diseases, in the context of Southern Cone Initiative for Chagas Disease (INCOSUR). The first presentation (João Carlos Pinto Dias) summarized the most important historical and political antecedents of the initiative, as well as its most recent advances and principal challenges in the new millennium.
